Dr. Sara McCallum Addams is a highly sought after educator and performer in the Dallas Fort Worth area.  As the current adjunct professor of bassoon at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas she teaches applied lessons. Dr. McCallum Addams is also the bassoon private lesson instructor for Coppell ISD, with an active studio of 6th-12th graders.  A native Texan, Dr. McCallum Addams attended Texas State University, receiving a Bachelor of Music in bassoon performance and the University of North Texas, receiving a Master of Music also in bassoon performance. Dr. McCallum Addams relocated to Illinois to attend the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where she completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in performance and literature with a secondary concentration in historical musicology, with a final dissertation entitled: Aesthetics of neoclassicism and populism in chamber works for woodwinds by Charles Koechlin and Francis Poulenc, 1918-1939. Major teachers include Daris Word-Hale, Kathleen Reynolds and Timothy McGovern.  As a freelance musician Dr. McCallum Addams plays an active role in the thriving musical community in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, having performed with regional orchestras, musical theatre companies as well as several chamber groups. New for the Fall of 2021, Dr. McCallum Addams has launched an online studio with several ways for bassoonists or educators to work with her regardless of their location. Aside from her numerous teaching and playing engagements, Dr. McCallum Addams spends time lovingly hand making reeds for her private studio. Dr. Sara McCallum Addams resides in Denton, Texas with her amazing husband, Robert and their cuddly dog, Penny.
