Matthew Rummel
Color Guard Director and Designer

Mr. Rummel will begin his eighth year this fall as the head director of the Coppell Guard program. He began his career as a baritone player in the Magic of Orlando in 2003. He continued his involvement with the Magic of Orlando as the Drum Major in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Mr. Rummel was awarded DCI's prestigious Jim Jones Leadership Award in 2005. He finished his DCI career in the Color Guard at The Cavaliers (Rosemont, Illinois).

 

In addition to his work with The Cavaliers, Mr. Rummel performed with Northeast Independent Winter Guard (WGI Independent World Class) from 2007-2009. Mr. Rummel was hired as the director and designer of the Wakeland Guard (Frisco, Texas) in 2012. He led the program to 6 NTCA Medals, 10 WGI Regional Finals Performances, a promotion to Scholastic Open Class, and a 9th place Scholastic Open Class Finals placement at the 2016 WGI World Championships in Dayton.

Mr. Rummel was the founder, director, and designer of the CGT Performance Ensembles (CGT Dallas and CGT Denton), a six-time WGI World Championship Finalist, the 2018 Independent World Class Fan Favorite, and the 2018 Independent Open Silver Medalist. During his time as the director of CGT, Mr. Rummel served on the Color Guard Advisory Board and theWGI Board of Directors for a two year term. In addition to his WGI ensembles, Mr. Rummel has also served on the administrative staff of the 7-time World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps 2009, 2011, and 2012. He was The Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps tour director in 2010 and returned to the Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps to serve on the Color Guard staff in 2015 serving as the Caption Manager in 2018 and 2019.
