Trombone Private Lesson Instructor

Jon Bohls is a music educator and freelance professional trombonist in the Dallas Metroplex. Jon began his music education career serving as the band director at New Braunfels Middle School in 1969. In 1974, he was a Teaching Assistant in the Music Department at Texas Tech University finishing his Master’s Degree. Next, in 1975 followed with four years at Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas serving as the assistant band director. In 1979, Jon began a nine year period serving as the head band director at Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas. In 1988, Jon began a career as a Private Trombone Instructor teaching in the Irving ISD, Carrollton/Farmers Branch ISD, Lewisville ISD, and Coppell ISD, where he has taught since 1993.

 

He is the Bass Trombone with the Lewisville Lake Symphony. He has performed with the San Antonio Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony, Dallas Opera Orchestra, Richardson Symphony, Garland/Los Colinas Symphon, Pete Peterson’s Collection Big Band, Sambuca Big Band, and the Dallas Jazz Orchestra. He directs and performs with the Dallas-area based professional trombone ensemble, SlideShow.

 

Jon served as part of the organizational team for the International Trombone Festival from 2002 – 2016. He was both the Exhibits Director and the Festival Director during that period.

 

Jon holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Texas Lutheran College and a Master of Music Education Degree from Texas Tech University. His trombone teachers include Bryce Taylor, Cal Schulz, Robert Deahl, Royce Lumpkin, and John Kitzman.
