Afternoon Brass musicians (Trumpets, Horns, Trombones, Euphonium/Baritones, & Tubas)
It is time to assess the cleanliness of your horn and get THEM CLEAN!
For marching instruments we may need to clean them every month due to the harsh conditions of being outside. For concert instruments, we may only need to clean every 3-6 months. EVERY MONTH slides need to be stripped of grease and new grease applied. Oiling of valves needs to happen every 3-7 days... valves (and trombone slides) are like human hydration: if you're thirsty (dry), you're already dehydrated!
You must be habitual with your horn maintenance!
CLEANING YOUR INSTRUMENT
THIS video from Luke Gall (you know him from Ultimate Drill Book) demonstrates how to effectively clean a brass instrument.
watch from beginning-3:00 and then the reassembly from 4:30-end
I also recommend you to by a tube/bottle of FLITZ to polish the outside of your horn. A very small amount (dime size) on a cloth will clean a large section of an instrument. The dirtier the cloth when working in the FLITZ, the more the product works!

In addition, we will be hosting cleaning parties in the shade of the stadium home-side concourse... more info to come!
