Dr. Jared Hunt earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trumpet Performance from Arizona State University, where he studied with world-renowned trumpet performer and pedagogue David Hickman. Hunt also holds degrees from The University of Texas at Austin (MM) and The University of Georgia (BME). His teachers at UT and UGA were Ray Sasaki, of the St. Louis Brass, and Fred Mills, of the Canadian Brass.
Dr. Hunt is an active orchestral, wind band, and chamber performer. In DFW, he has played with the Dallas Winds, Richardson Symphony, Dallas Asian Wind Ensemble, and Toccare Winds, along with chamber groups such as the Imperial Brass and Legacy Brass Quintet. Prior to moving to Texas, Hunt performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony, Arizona Opera, Ballet Arizona, Brazos Valley Symphony, and Athens Symphony. He has been a member of the Palo Verde Brass Quintet, Live Oak Brass Quintet, and Georgia Brass, along with many collegiate bands, orchestras, and trumpet ensembles.
Dr. Hunt has been the primary trumpet instructor for Coppell ISD since 2015, and the Trumpet Professor and Chamber Brass Director at Dallas College since 2016. Dr. Hunt’s students regularly earn spots with the Texas 6A All-State, Area, and Region Bands and Orchestras, as well as the Greater-Dallas Youth Orchestra, Lone Star Youth Orchestra, and Lone Star Wind Orchestra. His students have received music scholarships from institutions such as The New England Conservatory, Northwestern, Princeton, Miami, SMU, The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Georgia, and Oklahoma State University.
Dr. Hunt created and coaches the Greater Dallas Youth Trumpet Ensemble, an accomplished group that has won the Pre-College Ensemble Division at the National Trumpet Competition (NTC). In 2021, Coppell sent its first ensemble to NTC and placed third overall.
Outside of trumpet, Hunt is an avid marathon runner, mountain enthusiast, and state-of-Georgia sports fan. On Saturdays in the fall, he can only be found wearing red and black. He and his wife, Rebecca, have two dogs and live in Oak Point.
