FAQ During Extended Spring Break due to COVID-19 Virus
We are experiencing challenging and unprecedented times during the outbreak of the COVID-19 Virus in North Texas.
It is our hope that this page can serve as a resource to answer all of your questions.
We will continually update this page as changes are made to our school/band calendar.
Drum Major Workshops
Catherine Yang (Senior Drum Major) is beginning to communicate with students regarding their interest in auditioning for Drum Major (V and JV) next year.
Workshops are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 (either online or in person, depending on social distancing status).
In the event that we are unable to host this first workshop, we are considering an online option for our candidates to begin preparing.
There will be playing assignments for the week focused on our Spring Concert program.
Students will be asked to submit recordings via Schoology and/or Google Drive to their ensemble conductors.
Additionally, students may be asked to view resources, listen to lectures, or write reflections on works performed.
Please ensure your child is staying current with their primary ensemble on both GroupMe and Schoology.
At this time, all instrument have been retrieved. If you are in need of any equipment from CHS or CHS9, please email Mr. Miller.
Marching Band Design Camps
At this point in time, our first 2020 Marching Design Camp is on the schedule for Friday, April 17, 2020 from 5:00-10:00pm.
We are hoping that this event will go forward, as it is vital to planning the 2020 Marching shows.
At this point in time, Pre-UIL has been canceled.
As well, UIL activities have been suspended until May 1.
If C&SR is rescheduled, more details will follow.
Students should continue private lessons with their instructors during this extended break.
Nearly all private lesson teachers in CISD are offering lessons via Zoom and/or Skype.
To view a video that was shared with our lesson teachers about how Skype lessons will work, click HERE.
Our private lesson staff depends on our students continuing in lessons to support their livelihood - please email to schedule lessons for your child via Skype.
We hope to be able to return to in-person lessons once the threat of this virus slows.
Our May Solo Contest is still on-schedule for Saturday, May 9, 2020.
In fact, over this extended break, practicing your solo for this event is a great investment of your additional time.
We have put plans in place for the May Solo Contest to take place either online or in-person.
This will be a major grade in the 4th 9-weeks, so be sure you're working on it regularly.
UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation
UIL has suspended all activities until May 1, 2020.
As a result, our UIL C&SR date will likely not be rescheduled.
This will be a challenge amidst a wide range of testing dates.
We will communicate more on UIL C&SR as information becomes available from the Region 31 Executive Committee.
Regrettably, our 2020 Winter Guard season has been cut short by the cancellation of all remaining NTCA and WGI Competitions.
We are excited for the incredible season they were able to have, and look forward to a great showing moving into the 2020 color guard.
During this time of isolation, you may want to attend an online concert or go to a museum - it's very healthy intellectually.
Here are a few resources offering FREE online concerts and museum tours.
Keeping your mind active is vital during these challenging times.
